The flower represented in the Cancer Survivors
Project logo is the perinwinkle. This is more
than just a pretty flower. The leaves of the Madagascar
periwinkle are used to produce vincristine and
vinblastine. This chemotherapeutic agent has been
used in the course of treatment for many cancer
survivors, including a number of the members of
the Cancer Survivors Project. (Thankfully, research
is showing that vincristine and vinblastine are
safer over time than many other chemotherapeutic
agents have proven to be.) |
